Sometimes it's the small, personal things that make a big difference. As part of our mentoring program, we at Hamburger mit Herz e.V. are looking for committed people of all ages who can make it a little easier for a refugee to settle into our society.
Many mentees from different countries are waiting to meet a mentor who will accompany them, support them in everyday matters and provide them with advice and assistance. This could be going for a walk, practising a shared hobby, helping them learn and speak German, correcting emails, filling out forms or spending time together in our beautiful city.

We arrange 1-to-1 sponsorships between Hamburg residents and adult refugees and migrants. The sponsorships are initially concluded for six months. They are usually extended. Our mentors spend 1-2 hours per week with their mentee. The meetings can be arranged individually. The aim is to build a relationship between two people from different cultures, to gain insights into the other culture and to develop a deep mutual understanding of each other - on an equal footing.

Our mentoring program also includes regular events such as our exchange meeting for mentors (4 times a year) and tandem meetings (4 times a year).

Can you imagine supporting a refugee in their new everyday life and accompanying their arrival for some time? If you are reliable, committed, open and tolerant, then we would be delighted to welcome you as a mentor. What you need for this:

• Willingness to support a refugee in their everyday life in Hamburg
• Interest in intercultural exchange at eye level
